Bengals’ Demetrius Knight doing the little things for crucial season
Some interesting insight into Bengals LB Demetrius Knight attempting to turn things around.
Next season is make-or-break for sophomore Cincinnati Bengals linebackers Demetrius Knight and Barrett Carter. The duo was thrown to the wolves as rookies last year on a historically bad defense, betrayed by poor roster building, a coordinating change and unexpected drama from the likes of Logan Wilson. Now, though, excuses have dried up.
The Bengals have heavily invested in the defensive line again, topped off by trading for elite nose tackle Dexter Lawrence. That should make the life of a linebacker much easier. Knight has taken things into his own hands a bit this offseason, though.
According to Charlie Clifford of WLWT, Knight sought the help of veteran linebacker Demario Davis. In a funny twist, Davis looked like a free-agent target possibility for the Bengals as they looked for veterans to mentor Knight and Carter. Davis went on to sign with the New York Jets, but mentored Knight anyway, with one key lesson: It’s all about the playbook during the offseaosn.
It’s a little thing, but Knight seeking outside help despite the immense resources already available to him shows where his head’s at going into a critical year. This article originally appeared on Bengals Wire: Bengals’ Demetrius Knight doing the little things for crucial season
