WACO, Texas ( FOX 44 ) — Baylor softball picked up a pair of Big 12 postseason honors with the Big 12 Conference naming Brooklyn Carter to the All-Big 12 Defensive Team and Kaygen Marshall earning a spot on the Big 12 All-Freshman Team on Wednesday. Carter, a preseason All-Big 12 pick, posted a . 978 fielding percentage and four outfield assists in center field, with 87 putouts and only two errors in 93 chances.
Her range and closing speed routinely erased hits in the gap, while her arm strength helped limit opposing baserunners. Carter also made her mark on the basepaths, leading the Big 12 in stolen bases during conference play with 10, showcasing her all-around impact. Carter is Baylor’s third All-Defensive Team honoree in the last two seasons, joining Presleigh Pilon and Shaylon Govan, who were both recognized in 2025.
Marshall, meanwhile, made an immediate impact in her debut season, starting all 52 games she appeared in while transitioning early between first and third base before settling at the hot corner, a position she had not played prior to arriving in Waco. The freshman led the team with 10 home runs, the most by a Baylor freshman since Kassidy Krupit hit 10 in 2019 and is one of just five freshmen in the Glenn Moore era to reach double-digit homers. Marshall also contributed defensively with 153 chances and 83 assists at third base, anchoring the left side of the infield throughout the season.
She is Baylor’s first All-Freshman Team selection since 2023. Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
