Mason girls golf team wins fifth straight state title
Mason girls golf team secured its fifth consecutive state title, led by Ainsley Burns who won her fourth individual championship.
Mason girls golf’s Ainsley Burns capped her final high school golf tournament with her fourth Class 2A individual championship, while helping the team defend its state title on Tuesday. An Angelo State signee, Burns overcame a four-shot deficit with a final round of 66 to overtake first-day leader Alice Baird of Bogota Rivercrest. Cisco’s Jakelee Wood finished second, four strokes behind Burns, while Baird finished third.

They started the day with a one-shot lead over second-place Spearman and ended with a remarkable 55-shot victory to claim their fifth consecutive state title. Mason’s Ruby Hills tied for sixth with a 162, followed by Bronwyn Wood’s 164, Anna Marie Whitworth’s 179 and Sophia Jordan’s 186 total.
Spearman held on for a second-place finish, while Sonora won a playoff against Cisco for third place. 2 team had an unprecedented fifth-place finish at the state tournament, led by Grace Klaerner, who finished with a total of 180. Sabina Perez was the next highest finisher with 181, followed by Caitlin McCrea’s 194, Cameron Asbill’s 203 and Kydie Kimbriel’s 221. Colorado City’s Kaylynn Epperson was the only other area golfer at the 2A tournament and finished in sixth at 162.
