In the offseason between the 2022 and 2023 seasons, they agreed with Correa on a 12-year, $315 million contract. But the deal never was completed. The Mets backed out of the deal.
Concerns about Correa's medical future caused a change of heart. They were the second team that offseason to do so, after the San Francisco Giants did the same thing. Correa eventually signed a smaller contract with the Minnesota Twins , who ended up trading him back to his first team, the Houston Astros .
And while there's no telling what would've happened to Correa medically if he had ended up elsewhere, the reality is this: On Wednesday, Correa's 2026 MLB season was ruled officially over. He had been hitting in the batting cage on Tuesday. He felt a pop.
