The Colorado Rockies have made multiple bullpen signings over the past few days. Just yesterday, the NL West club agreed to a minor league contract with former Toronto Blue Jays All-Star closer Jordan Romano. Today, they've signed another veteran reliever who was most recently pitching in Mexico for the LMB's Algodoneros del Unión Laguna.
Right-hander Erasmo Ramirez's former club announced his new deal with the Rockies on Wednesday. Ramirez, 36, is a 14-year veteran who can eat innings in Colorado's bullpen. He's also made 96 starts in his career since debuting in 2012 with the Seattle Mariners .
"Ramirez opened the season in Mexico and was hit hard, surrendering 11 runs on 17 hits and a pair of walks with nine punchouts in a dozen innings," Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors wrote . "Poor small-sample results notwithstanding, the Rockies were clearly intrigued by Ramirez’s stuff. He’ll hope to pitch his way into what would be a 15th season with some big league experience.
