Where Duke's transfer portal class ranks in the ACC, nationally
Duke was efficient and effective using the transfer portal this offseason, adding three key pieces to its roster.
Since the introduction of the transfer portal in college basketball, it has been intriguing to see how different coaches use it. For the most part, Duke and Jon Scheyer have been quiet, including this year as the Blue Devils signed just three newcomers via the portal, but the addition of 5-star portal player John Blackwell will have a huge impact on the ACC and college basketball. As the new coach in Chapel Hill, Michael Malone has had to hit the portal hard, adding four players, including three 4-stars, to a roster that underperformed last season and saw star Caleb Wilson enter the NBA draft after just one season.
Some other schools, including Pitt and Boston College, have totally revamped their rosters, adding eight and nine players, respectively. But where does Duke rank in the ACC when it comes to the transfer portal? The Blue Devils are fourth in the conference and 11th overall after adding Blackwell, John Schwarnowski and Jacob Theodosiou.
Hereโs how the rest of the conference stands among ACC members and in college basketball: Louisville (1st overall - 6 commits - 1 five-star, 4 four-stars, 1 three-star) Miami (5th- 6 commits - 3 four-stars, 1 three-star) UNC (6th - 4 commits - 3 four-stars, 1 three-star) Duke (11th - 3 commits - 1 five-star, 1 four-star, 1 three-star) NC State (27th โ 6 commits - 4 four-stars, 2 three-stars) Pittsburgh (30th - 8 commits - 4 four-stars, 3 three-stars) Syracuse (38th - 6 commits - 2 four-stars, 4 three-stars) SMU (39th - 5 commits - 2 four-stars, 3 three-stars) Florida State (44th - 5 commits - 4 four-stars, 1 three-star) Georgia Tech (50th - 5 commits, 1 four-star, 4 three-stars) Clemson (53rd - 3 commits, 2 four-stars, 1 three-star) Boston College (56th - 9 commits, 1 four-star, 6 three-stars) Notre Dame (57th - 5 commits, 1 four-star, 3 three-stars) California (69th - 5 commits - 3 three-stars) Virginia (76th - 2 commits - 1 four-star, 1 three-star) Wake Forest (79th - 7 commits - 1 four-star, 1 three-star) Virginia Tech (107th - 3 commits - 1 three-star) Stanford (N/A) This article originally appeared on Duke Wire: Where Duke's transfer portal class ranks in the ACC, nationally
