Wessel Nijman continued his staggering start to 2026 on Tuesday by clinching a sixth PDC Pro Tour title of the year, after a dominant 8-1 victory over Max Hopp in the final of Players Championship 14, as the midweek double header concluded at Halle 39, Hildesheim.
Nijman – the winner of PC2, PC8, PC10, PC12 & The European Darts Trophy already in 2026 – reached yet another final by recording a succession of victories against Daniel Klose, Jurjen Van der Velde, Niall Culleton, Joe Cullen, Krzysztof Ratajski and Danny Noppert, to set up a clash with Hopp. MORE ELITE DARTS COVERAGE: Check Out Our Devoted PDC Area The final began with Nijman storming to a 6-0 lead with winning legs coming in 16,12,14,13,15 and 12 darts respectively before Hopp ended the drought in Leg Seven with a 15-dart break of throw. This ultimately resulted in being the only leg won by ‘The Maximiser’ in the finale as Nijman won back-to-back legs and sealed the victory in Leg Nine with a 15-darter to pick up a ninth PDC ranking title of his career as well as the £15,000 top prize.
Hopp’s run to a first ranking final in seven years saw the Former World Youth Champion record victories on the day against Christian Kist, Lewis Pride, Damon Heta, Rob Cross, Joe Hunt and Tom Bissell, before being denied the chance by Nijman of picking up a third ranking title of his career. Elsewhere, there were Quarter Final runs for Austria’s Premier Player Mensur Suljovic & Dutchman Richard Veenstra who fired in a nine-dart finish during his run to the Last Eight, whilst the likes of Two-Time World Champion Gary Anderson and Monday’s PC13 winner Kevin Doets were amongst the high profile first round casualties. The PDC Pro Tour season continues next week May 12-13 in Leicester with Players Championship 15 & 16 taking place, as 128 players compete for £150,000 in prize money each day.
