Maresca also won the Conference League and got Chelsea back into the Champions League in his first season in charge. Enzo Maresca left Chelsea for three reasons Chelsea weren’t planing for a mid-season departure, and the decision to appoint Liam Rosenior backfired massively. The Englishman made a good start, but the wheels fell off very quickly and he was sacked last month following a run of five league defeats in a row without scoring.

Marc Cucurella and Enzo Fernandez had spoken out against the departure of Maresca, and it’s clear he was very popular with the players. His departure certainly impacted the season in a negative way, and BBC Sport have revealed the three reasons Maresca ultimately left. The report states a dispute over transfers, his salary and what he perceived as interference from the medical department over use of players were the main reasons.

Maresca is currently out of work but is widely expected to take over from Pep Guardiola as the next Manchester City manager when he eventually leaves the club.
