A lot of the talk surrounding the New York Mets over the offseason was whether they were going to keep Freddy Peralta on the roster long-term.

The starter New York landed in its deal with the Milwaukee Brewers , the hope was to keep Peralta around for a very long time after the season, though he hits free agency at the end of the campaign. The expectation is for Peralta to reach the open market without an extension from New York. Considering the Mets have been the worst team in Major League Baseball, currently with the fewest wins in the league, it's all but guaranteed they'll be sellers at the deadline.

If that ends up being the case, it sounds like Peralta could be available. “Which starters could become available? If the Mets continue to falter, Freddy Peralta -- a free agent at the end of the season -- could be an interesting option.

The same goes for Clay Holmes, who has a $12 million player option for 2027 that he will likely decline based on the way his season is trending,” Mark Feinsand of MLB. com wrote . I just don't see an avenue in which the Mets should keep Peralta around unless he gives them full certainty that he's going to take an extension by signing it.
