KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WJHL) – Tennessee maintained its perfect midweek record by defeating Presbyterian 8-1 on Tuesday night at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. While the Blue Hose took an early lead with a solo home run in the first, the Volunteers responded with a powerful offensive display, scoring their first six runs off four home runs.

Blake Grimmer and Trent Grindlinger hit solo shots in the third to take the lead, followed by two-run homers from Levi Clark and Garrett Wright in the sixth. Late insurance arrived in the eighth inning through a sacrifice fly by Stone Lawless and an RBI single from Jay Abernathy. On the mound, Tennessee’s pitching staff was dominant, throwing eight consecutive scoreless innings and striking out 11 batters while allowing only one hit.

Freshman Ethan Baiotto earned his third win of the year with a flawless relief appearance. Now 32-17, the Vols prepare to host the fourth-ranked Texas Longhorns for a weekend series starting Friday. Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc.
