Islands, Savannah Arts boys’ soccer punch tickets to state semifinals

The boys' soccer teams of Islands and Savannah Arts Academy won their state quarterfinal matchups at home on Tuesday.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — The boys’ soccer teams of Islands and Savannah Arts Academy won their state quarterfinal matchups at home on Tuesday. Savannah Arts and Drew Charter, out of the Atlanta area, played for a spot in the state semifinals at Savannah High Stadium.

The game remained scoreless until the final minute when Savannah Arts was able to shake the back of the net for a 1-0 victory. Savannah Arts and Columbus will face off for a spot in the state championship game in Columbus. Over at Islands Stadium, the Sharks faced Mary Person with a trip to the Final Four on the line.

Islands scored three times in the first 40 minutes and maintained a 3-0 lead at the half, which ended up being a final. Islands, who advanced to the state semifinals for the second time in school history, will play Jefferson, the team that knocked them out of the playoffs last year, for a spot in the Class AAA state title match on Friday.
