As the Kansas City Chiefs entered the offseason fresh off a 6-11 record and no playoffs, the franchise knew where its most problematic positions were on the roster.
The biggest one was running back. Kareem Hunt and Isiah Pacheco gave the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes next to nothing in the run game, as the pair struggled to get anything positive cooking. That has led the Chiefs to sign Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker this offseason, along with a couple of other newcomers, to overhaul the position.
And for ESPN's Nate Taylor, running back is easily the most improved position for the Chiefs. โNo other position could've been better enhanced than at running back, as the Chiefs replaced Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt with a trio of Kenneth Walker III, Emari Demercado and Emmett Johnson,โ Taylor wrote . โWith the Seahawks last season, Walker finished second among all running backs in percentage of carries that gained 10 yards or more.
Demercado and Johnson should be quality backups who offer versatility and receiving skills out of the backfield. โ MORE: Analyst has surprising choice for Browns' Week 1 QB starter Run game key to Chiefs' success in 2026? Well, it's certainly going to make the offense far less predictable.
