Jacksonville Christian, Spring Garden open Class 1A, Area 12 tournament with wins

Jacksonville Christian and Spring Garden opened the Class 1A, Area 12 softball tournament with first-round victories Monday. The Thunder defeated Coosa Christian, 15-0, while the Panthers topped Gaylesville, 5-2. JCA and Spring Garden are scheduled to meet Tuesday at 2 p.

m. , with the winner advancing to the championship round. Jacksonville Christian 15, Coosa Christian 0: Addy Lee fired a perfect game against the Conquerors, striking out seven in the three-inning victory.

She went 2-for-3 at the plate with two doubles, two RBIs and one run scored. Bryleigh Reid hit a two-run inside-the-park home run, and Mollie Mullinax finished 1-for-2 with an RBI triple and two runs scored. Sophie Williams drew three walks, stole a base and scored three times.

Audrina Williams went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored, while Carlie Chesson finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Cali Sexton, Amia Jones and Amberly Brodeur each added a single. Sexton stole a base and scored twice, while Jones and Symone Estell each crossed the plate once.

Spring Garden 5, Gaylesville 2: Kylie Bates led the Panthers at the plate, going 2-for-4. She led off the bottom of the first inning with a solo home and finished with two RBIs and two runs scored. Addie Word hit a two-run inside-the-park home run.
