Manchester City move to secure another key player’s future
Manchester City move to secure another key player’s future Given the way the Manchester City squad is constructed, City has a plethora of players who are important now and will also be important building blocks for the future. One of those players is Croatian defender Josko Gvardiol. Gvardiol is 24 years of age, and when he is fit, he has established himself as a key player in Pep Guardiola’s squad.
Unfortunately, Josko Gvardiol suffered a right tibial fracture at the beginning of 2026, which has kept him out of action this year. Despite Gvardiol’s injury, his status in the City squad is firmly established. Now it has been reported that the Croatian defender is close to agreeing to a contract extension with Manchester City.
Manchester City’s bid to get Gvardiol to commit his future to the club shows how highly valued he is at the club. Josko Gvardiol is reportedly poised to sign a contract extension with Manchester City. Transfer specialist Nicolò Schira has reported that Josko Gvardiol is edging closer to signing a contract extension with Manchester City.
Schira reports that Gvardiol is set to commit his future to the club by signing a contract extension that runs until 2030. As per Schira’s report, there will be an option to extend Gvardiol’s contract until 2031 included in his new deal. Another key player seems set to commit his future to City.
Manchester City look to be wasting no time in tying down several key players futures to the club. Phil Foden appears poised to also extend his contract with the club. David Ornstein has reported for The Athletic that Foden has agreed on new deal with City.
