South Carolina gains recruiting momentum as it builds 2027 class
South Carolina football recruiting is heating up as Beamer and the Gamecocks build momentum in the 2027 class with key commits and national targets.
Momentum isn’t a buzzword in recruiting, it’s currency. And right now, Shane Beamer and the South Carolina Gamecocks are spending it wisely. Coming off a very productive week on the recruiting trail, the Gamecocks announced the addition of three new commitments to their 2027 class, headlined by tight end Judah Lancaster .
Out of Tennessee, the Brentwood Academy standout brings a prototype build at 6-foot-5 and over 230 pounds to Columbia. Lancaster is the kind of frame that forces defensive coordinators into doing uncomfortable math. And in today’s game, elite tight ends are leverage.
Lancaster has the tools to become exactly that for the Gamecocks, but he wasn't the only addition turning heads. Defensive lineman John Archer arrives as the highest-rated pledge in the class so far. At 314 pounds, the North Carolina product is projected as a disruptive interior piece that South Carolina needs.
Archer is a player who can collapse pockets and reset the line of scrimmage. If developed properly, he won't be just a contributor; he will be an anchor for a playoff-caliber defense in Columbia. On the perimeter, wide receiver DJ Huggins adds speed and versatility on the field.
