Potential trade options for Colts' Anthony Richardson dwindle
As the Colts search for a trade partner for Anthony Richardson, options appear to be dwindling.
Over two months since he requested a trade, quarterback Anthony Richardson remains a member of the Indianapolis Colts. And potential trade destinations for the fourth-year quarterback appear to be dwindling. Back in mid-March, ESPN's Stephen Holder mentioned the Green Bay Packers as a team to monitor in these trade talks.
However, on Monday, the Packers signed veteran Tyrod Taylor to be their backup. According to NFL insider Jeremy Fowler , ideally, Richardson wants to land in an "extension of the McVay-Shanahan-LaFleur tree from which to learn. " However, the Packers now have their backup.
And so do the Rams after drafting Ty Simpson. The 49ers still have Mac Jones on their roster behind Brock Purdy. So in all likelihood, landing with one of those teams is probably no longer in play.
Now, there are other extensions of that coaching tree around the NFL with Kevin O'Connell in Minnesota, Liam Coen in Jacksonville, and Mike LaFleur in Arizona. That said, the Vikings are working through their own dilemma at quarterback with JJ McCarthy. The Jaguars have Trevor Lawrence, while the Cardinals are searching for their quarterback of the future, and how they feel about Richardson is not known.
