Kirby Lee-Imagn Images The NHL Draft Lottery is today, and though the Boston Bruins made the playoffs, this event still matters. At the 2025 trade deadline, the Bruins traded Brandon Carlo to the Toronto Maple Leafs. In exchange, the Bruins received Fraser Minten, a first-round pick, and a fourth-round pick (Vashek Blanar).
That first-round pick is on the line tonight. The pick was top five protected, and the Maple Leafs have the fifth-best odds at winning the draft lottery. The Bruins will only receive the Maple Leafs’ first-round pick this year if Toronto falls out of the top five.
If not, they will get the pick in either 2027 or 2028 – the year is to be determined. For the second year in a row, the drawing of the lottery balls will be televised so fans may follow along as the numbers are pulled. There will be two lotteries, first for the first-overall pick, then for the second-overall pick.
Teams can move up no more than 10 spots. The Bruins finished with the fifth-best lottery odds last year. They selected James Hagens at No.
