Rumours had been circulating about the change, and it was officially confirmed when the Eagles added more dates to their run at the popular venue, including September 19.
Beyond that, hosting a fight at Sphere comes with massive financial demands – even Netflix would feel those costs. Plus, without any ties to a casino, it’s not exactly an attractive option for boxing promoters or betting firms. It was already expected to move away from Sphere, and that’s now confirmed, with the Eagles taking over the date for their residency. Sporting events rarely go there due to the costs involved. UFC 306 remains the only one so far, reportedly costing Dana White and Turki Alalshikh tens of millions to put together.
An industry insider explained it plainly: “It made no sense to put it at The Sphere – it’s not connected to a casino. ” Before getting back in the ring with Pacquiao, Mayweather has two exhibition bouts lined up. He was meant to face Mike Tyson last month in Africa, though that didn’t happen.
