Fuming over European qualification! Boss locks stars in at club

Fuming over European qualification! Boss locks stars in at club Olympique Marseille suffered a setback in the battle for the European places over the weekend. For Frank McCourt, the 3-0 defeat against Nantes was one humiliation too many.

That is why the club owner is taking tough action. As journalist Daniel Riolo reported on the program 'After Foot' on French broadcaster RMC, all OM stars will be locked in at the training ground until the next matchday. The club owner is said to be "very, very angry" and can no longer tolerate "what the players are producing – it is absolutely shameful".

So things are really coming to a head. But not everyone supports this measure. Coach Habib Beye is reportedly against it.

"This decision does not satisfy Beye, he is against it," Riolo claims, stressing that the coach knows "that the team is no longer pulling together anyway". Internally, the measure therefore seems to have been imposed rather than accepted. Marseille are currently seventh in Ligue 1 and would therefore miss out on European football next season.

They have managed just one win from their last five matches. Whether the punishment will now help them return to winning ways next weekend remains to be seen. On Sunday, OM face Le Havre away.
