Picture: Matheus Cunha rubbishes strange rumour in social media post Manchester United forward Matheus Cunha has dismissed a bizarre claim that he is set to miss the rest of the season after an agreement between the club and the Brazil national team. Strange rumours Cunha is enjoying life at United, having arrived at Old Trafford last summer from Wolverhampton Wanderers. His brilliant strike during Sunday’s 3-2 victory over Liverpool took his season tally to nine goals in 30 appearances.
He has also contributed two assists in that period. A versatile operator, he has made the left-wing position his own and has kicked up another level since Michael Carrick was named Ruben Amorim’s replacement at the start of the year. On Monday, a report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United had reached an agreement with Brazil’s football federation that would have seen Cunha sit out the remainder of the campaign ahead of this summer’s World Cup tournament in North America.
Cunha missed United’s win over Brentford last week with an injury, but recovered in time to feature for the Red Devils in their triumph over Liverpool. It was said that the 26-year-old would be rested for United’s final three fixtures of the campaign, to allow him as much time as possible to recover and be fully fit to feature for Brazil at the World Cup. But Cunha has shut down this bizarre speculation.
Cunha sets record straight The player took to social media on Tuesday morning and posted a photo of himself in a celebratory mood while sporting United’s home kit. Alongside a laughing emoji, he geotagged the photo in Manchester and wrote the caption “What? ” (Photo courtesy of Matheus Cunha’s Instagram ) It’s safe to say that there is no truth to these rumours and as long as Cunha is fit, he will be used by Michael Carrick.
Speaking to reporters after the final whistle vs. Liverpool, Carrick stressed that he and his players are eager to rack up as many points as possible. United are next in action on Saturday when go away to Sunderland.
