Alan Shearer calls for Man United to retain Michael Carrick as permanent head coach Premier League legend Alan Shearer has told Manchester United to appoint Michael Carrick as permanent manager at the end of the season. Carrick has excelled beyond expectations since replacing Ruben Amorim and has led United back to the Champions League after a two-year hiatus. United sealed their place in Europe’s premier tournament with a dramatic 3-2 victory against Liverpool over the weekend, with the previously exiled Kobbie Mainoo netting the winning goal.

Carrick’s record since taking over as interim manager has been impeccable, with the Englishman losing just two of his 14 Premier League games so far (W10, D2). He has also steered United to big wins against rivals such as Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea, and, more recently, Liverpool, further boosting his prospects for the permanent role. Following the victory over Liverpool, Shearer has now called on United to retain Carrick’s services, although with certain incentives in place.

When asked if Carrick is the man to take them forward, Shearer told BBC : “They brought him in to do a specific job, and he has done that job very, very well. “He’s won in big games as well. He’s beaten [Manchester] City, beaten Arsenal, beaten Liverpool.

“So for me, yes, he at least deserves the chance to go again. I don’t know, maybe a one-year contract with different incentives if he hits different targets. “But he was brought in to do a job, and he’s done that job.

” No club has won more Premier League points than United since Carrick took over, which is a massive credit to the former Middlesbrough manager. He has managed to galvanise a squad that looked to have lost their way under Amorim, making United a force to be reckoned with once again. With Champions League football now secured, the conversation has now shifted to whether Carrick has what it takes to take United to the next level.
