The New York Yankees decided to option Anthony Volpe to Triple-A, a decision that came as somewhat of a surprise.
Volpe, who has obviously struggled to be in New York, now has to earn his spot back in Triple-A. The decision was rather obvious for the Yankees, though they took until the final moments to make the decision. When speaking about why the Yankees went in that direction, manager Aaron Boone kept his comments simple.
He stated that Jose Caballero is playing very well at the moment, and he deserves to continue playing until he proves otherwise. “Caballero is playing the heck out of the position and playing really well,” Boone said. “That complicates it… “He’s been right in the middle of that, defensively and offensively,” Boone said of Caballero, per The Athletic.
“He’s earned some opportunities there. It’s really as simple as that. “The fact is we’re probably as deep as we’ve ever been, and we have real competition for real spots and real roles on the team that we haven’t had at some moments in time, at some portions of seasons.
