NEW YORK — Suzyn Waldman prepared herself. She knew John Sterling, her partner in the Yankees ’ radio booth for two decades, was in his final days. They’d had some good days in the days, weeks and months following a heart attack in January.
The phone call that she knew “was coming” arrived in the middle of the night Sunday. The Yankees radio voice for 5,631 regular-season and postseason games from 1989-2014, including an amazing 5,060 in a row at the start of his run, was gone.
