James Franklin focused on keeping Virginia talent in state
AP James Franklin, head coach of Virginia Tech football, made a stop in Hampton Roads to connect with local Hokies supporters and fans. The visit is part of an effort to strengthen the program’s ties to the 757, a region known for producing top football talent. Franklin has built a reputation as one of the nation’s top recruiters and talent developers, and that success is showing in Virginia Tech’s latest recruiting class.
The Hokies have climbed into the top 25 nationally for the first time since 2019, highlighted by eight four-star commitments. The class also features local talent, including former Green Run High School defensive back Zaevion Cleveland and former Nansemond River High School standout Tyrell Grant, who is expected to transition from quarterback to safety at the next level. This marks Franklin’s 13th consecutive season leading a program with a top-25 recruiting class.
A major focus for the Hokies moving forward is keeping top in-state talent within Virginia.
