The former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver signed a one-year contract with the Buffalo Bills ahead of the 2024-25 season, but never played a game for the AFC East franchise due to an untimely toe injury. Claypool appeared in nine games with the Miami Dolphins in 2023-24 before joining the Bills, recording four receptions for 26 yards in nine contests. After failing to find a gig this past season, Claypool made it clear he wasn’t giving up on an eventual return, citing that he’s eager to make another appearance in the big leagues.
The 27-year-old recently tried out for the Green Bay Packers , and it didn’t take long for the four-time Super Bowl champions to decide whether to sign him to a deal. “No immediate deal for Packers and veteran wide receiver Chase Claypool after tryout, per league source, and no plan to revisit at this time,” KPRC 2 Houston’s Aaron Wilson reported Monday. Claypool clearly didn’t do enough to convince the Packers to take a short- or long-term chance on him.
The former second-round pick likely made his fair share of plays during the tryout, but was far from a standout performer. Claypool’s NFL journey isn’t over yet, though, as there’s a chance he could find work elsewhere ahead of the next NFL campaign.
