Green Bay Packers land perfect candidate to back up Jordan Love
The Packers added to their quarterback room on Monday.
The Green Bay Packers won't be in the market for Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson, as was expected to be the case, but they have secured a strong candidate for the backup quarterback role, as they signed a reliable veteran signal caller in Tyrod Taylor on Monday. Taylor inked a deal with the Packers on Monday, originally reported by NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero and later confirmed by the Packers. Taylor will be entering his 16th NFL season, and he spent the last two seasons with the New York Jets.

com/XedK8CqAQ4 ā NFL (@NFL) May 4, 2026 Taylor adds an appealing option to serve as starting quarterback Jordan Love's backup, bringing significant starting experience and the football IQ of a longtime veteran to the room. If Love goes down, as has happened before, the Packers now know they have a reliable backup who's been in this position before. Over his career, he's played in 100 NFL games and made 62 starts, posting a 29-31-1 record as a backup.
The Packers simultaneously released Desmond Ritter in conjunction with Taylor's signing, so Taylor should immediately step in and compete with Kyle McCord for the backup job in Green Bay.
