Genk’s inconsistency allows four teams back into race for European ticket in the Belgian Pro League Genk went into the Belgian Pro League play-offs confident that they could win play-off two and earn a spot in the match for the final European ticket. However, their inconsistent season has carried over into the play-offs, and now with four games to go, five of the six teams in the play-offs are in with a chance of winning the second play-offs. Genk remain top on 30 points, but after a defeat to Charleroi at the weekend they are now level on points with Standard Liege and Westerlo.

The latter messed up their chance to go top, drawing 3-3 with OH Leuven, the only side who are well off the pace. Standard Liege put themselves back in contention with a huge win over Antwerp. Their 5-0 victory puts them second, with a clash with OH Leuven next weekend.

Antwerp, despite their terrible performance against Standard, are only three points off Genk. They face Charleroi next weekend, another team three points off of the leave. The winner will close the gap on either Westerlo or Genk, or even both, depending on the result in their game.

There are just four games to go and it looks like the final chance of winning a European ticket will be going down to the final match. GBeNeFN | Ben Jackson
