James Clarke's own goal had the Tribesmen ahead at the break, before Dos Santos rescued a point for the home side with his first goal for the club. The Candystripes were playing the second of at least five 'home' games at Celtic Park, the home of Derry GAA, while a new hybrid pitch is laid at their traditional Brandywell base.

Tiernan Lynch's side extend their unbeaten run to six matches, but stay fifth in the table after dropping further points at home. Galway are now unbeaten in three and stay seventh, two points above the relegation zone. Super-sub Santos saves City The game struggled to find any rhythm or pattern through the opening 20 minutes, with Patrick McClean's header from Barry Cotter's long throw-in the only effort on goal, but it was straight down the throat of Evan Watts.

Galway's long balls over the top continued to cause problems and Francely Lomboto was denied an opener by Derry keeper Eddie Beach. In a half that lacked quality, James Clarke finally provided something for the home fans to get excited about with a skilful volley, which was saved by Watts. From the next attack the visitors hit the front as Lomboto's header deflected off Clarke before sneaking past Beach into his own goal.

Lomboto had a big chance to double the advantage early in the second half only to be denied once again by Beach. Derry did have the ball in the back of the net on the hour mark but Jamie Stott's header was chalked off after McClean was adjudged to have fouled an opposition defender in the build-up. In the first of five additional minutes, substitute Dos Santos snatched a point for the hosts with a curling finish.
