Following the first WIAA state girls basketball title in program history, Whitefish Bay coach Jon Schneider has decided to step down from his role.
Whitefish Bay girls basketball coach Jon Schneider has decided to step down from his role as head coach following the program's first state basketball championship this past March . The news was confirmed by Whitefish Bay activities director Randee Drew, who said the head coaching job vacancy was posted Friday, May 1. "It is true Jon is stepping down to spend more time with his family," Drew said in an email.
"We do not have a coach in place. We just posted the position [on Friday]. " VOTE NOW: Vote for Piggly Wiggly athlete of the week for April 27-May 2 Schneider took over the program following the conclusion of the 2014-15 season from previous coach Rick DeKeyser and helped the Blue Dukes capture the program's first state title this past season in the ninth overall trip to the state tournament.
Whitefish Bay defeated Beaver Dam in a 64-63 thriller, highlighted by a combined title-saving defensive stop from Carrington Balthasarย and Rowan Counsell. The Blue Dukes went 180-96 under Schneider during his tenure with two state tournament appearances and the program's first North Shore Conference title since the 2005-06 season this past year (in a title share with Hartford) and the program's gold ball.
