The Pittsburgh Steelers recently released a player who has spent time in the NFL as both a quarterback and a wide receiver.
And at least for now, he'll be taking his talents to the UFL, the ongoing spring football league. The athlete: John Rhys Plumlee. The UFL announced over the weekend that Plumlee has signed with the Houston Gamblers, who are listing him as a quarterback.
Plumlee's NFL journey has been fascinating for a guy who has yet to appear in a regular season game. He was a college quarterback at Ole Miss and then UCF. For those teams, he was listed as a QB. But when the Steelers signed Plumlee in late 2024, he was listed as a wide receiver. Because Plumlee hasn't gotten into regular season action, there's no way to know for sure what Pittsburgh may have envisioned.
