Auburn baseball drops series finale to Texas A&M on Sunday: Recap

Auburn baseball nearly escaped its weekend in College Station with a pivotal series sweep, but taking two of three games this time of the season is always helpful. The No. 8 Auburn Tigers pieced together a strong 9th inning effort by scoring two runs to trim the Texas A&M lead to one run.

However, Brandon McCraine grounded into a double play with a runner on 3rd base to end the game, giving the No. 7 Aggies the 4-3 win to salvage a game in the SEC series at Blue Bell Park in College Station, Texas. Chris Hacopian was the hero at the plate for the Aggies as his 1st inning RBI groundout and three-run home run in the 6th inning produced the only runs of the game for the home team.

Weston Moss held Auburn hitless through the first six innings before Mason McCraine led off the 7th inning with a double. He later scored Auburn's first run two at-bats later on a Chris Rembert single to cut Texas A&M's lead to 4-1. Rembert added another run in the 9th inning with a single to right field, which led to an error to score Mason McCraine.

Bub Terrell scored the last run of the game on a one-out single to the pitcher before the game-ending double play wiped Auburn's chances of tying the game and possibly sweeping the series. Despite being held hitless through the first six innings, Auburn out-hit Texas A&M, 7-6. Mason McCraine and Chris Rembert led the charge with two hits and one RBI each.
