The defender picked up an ACL injury in the very first training session of preseason, and has been out ever since. He’s had a few weeks back in training now, and is finally considered ready for a spot on the bench.

There’s no reason he will come on – it’s more likely just a question of a morale boost for the defender after 9 long months of rehab. We expect he will get a start before the season is out, with Sunderland on the final day looking like a prime chance to give him a run out. Colwill adds to Chelsea’s defensive bench Colwill’s return, as well as the absence of Alejandro Garnacho, Jamie Gittens and Pedro Neto, makes this a comically defensive bench.

Liam Delap is the only attacker of any description on there. Apart from him, there is a goalkeeper, two centre backs, three full backs and two defensive midfielder. Let’s hope we’re not chasing any goals in this game.
