Can Phillies Blame One Guy for Horrible Start to 2026 MLB Campaign?

It's very strange to look at the Philadelphia Phillies before Rob Thomson and not get a sense that he was blamed, and perhaps he shouldn't have been, for all of the struggles the organization has faced. Even when Dave Dombrowski spoke about the decision to move on from Thomson, it wasn't exactly like he was putting all the blame on him, even if the decision to let go of him made it seem like that. “This isn’t a blame game,” Dombrowski said , per MLB.

The Phillies look like a very good team on paper, at least one that can win games at a high level, but they just haven't been able to do so over the first month or so of the regular season. “No, I don’t have any regrets,” Dombrowski said about his roster construction. “I mean, if we play this way the rest of the year, I’ll have a lot of regrets at the end of the year.
