WACO, Texas ( FOX 44 ) — Baylor baseball couldn’t complete the sweep, falling to Texas Tech 8-3 on Sunday at Baylor Ballpark. The Bears held a 3-1 lead through six innings but were unable to hold off a late surge, as the Red Raiders scored seven unanswered runs to rally for the win and salvage the series finale. Despite the loss, redshirt senior first baseman Tyce Armstrong delivered another milestone performance, hitting his 21st home run of the season.

The blast tied Baylor’s single season record set by Charley Carter in 1998. It also marked Armstrong’s seventh home run in the past five games, a stretch that is believed to be unprecedented in program history. Tyce Armstrong has been a steady presence in the lineup during the recent surge of power.

“He’s such a mature kid,” Baylor coach Mitch Thompson said. “In everything that he does and how he goes about his classwork and how he leaves his team, how he goes about his work every day, he’s such a humble, low maintenance guy. I mean, what a coach’s dream.

” Armstrong said he remained focused on his teammates throughout the achievement. Armstrong said, “I’m grateful and grateful for this opportunity and grateful for these teammates as coaches that took a chance on me. And it’s just awesome that I could do it for them.
