Leiter, Rangers Lose in Pitcher's Duel to Tigers

Yahoo Sports

Spencer Torkelson's homer paces Detroit Tigers to 7-1 victory over Texas Rangers.

Jack Leiter was incredible for the Texas Rangers on Sunday night, but the Detroit Tigers found a way to pick up a 7-1 win at Comerica Park in Detroit. Leiter went 6 2/3 innings and struck out 10, but gave up five earned runs to the Tigers. He also gave up five hits and walked one, and his season record falls to 1-3.

Brant Hurter, the third Tigers pitcher used on Sunday night by manager A. J. Hinch, picked up the win and is now 4-0 this season.

The game was scoreless until the home half of the fifth inning. With Riley Greene on first base, Torkelson hit his sixth homer this season to left-center field. That gave Detroit a 2-0 lead.

In the top of the sixth inning, Texas' Corey Seager, who is still trying to find his way at the plate this season, grounded into a double play with a runner at first base and no outs. Then, Detroit's Jake Rogers tripled on an 0-2 pitch with nobody out. Kevin McGonigle followed with a single to right, scoring Rogers and upping the Detroit lead to 3-0.
