The Washington Huskies avoided a sweep at the hands of their arch-rival, the Oregon Ducks on Sunday, with a 9-5 win over the No. 13 team in the country. Coach Eddie Smith's team got off to a hot start and never looked back after Sam DeCarlo kicked things off with a two-run home run in the first inning.

The shortstop reached base five times in the victory, going 3-for-3 with a pair of walks and 2 runs scored to go along with his two runs batted in before the Huskies exploded for seven runs in the sixth inning. The massive frame was highlighted by a solo home run from left fielder Jackson Hotchkiss, who went 2-for-5 with a pair of runs scored, and a three-run bomb off the bat of third baseman Blake Wilson as Washington collected 5 hits in the frame and faced three Duck pitchers in the inning. He worked 8 innings and let up 4 runs (2 earned) on 7 hits and 3 walks with 8 strikeouts while giving the bullpen a much-needed day of rest, as three of the runs he surrendered all came across in his final frame.
