The 19-year-old recovered from a so-so start and mastered the undercut strategy to defeat reigning champion Lando Norris for a hat-trick of wins as the anticipated storms stayed away from the Miami International Autodrome. Antonelli made another tardy getaway from pole position – losing the lead to Charles Leclerc – but salvaged second, though this became third when he fell behind Norris.
