John Curtis holds off late-rally from Jesuit in game two, advances to Division I Select semi-final
HARAHAN, La. (WGNO) – After a late fifth-inning rally from Jesuit, John Curtis hangs on in game two of its series, advancing to the Division I Select semi-final. The Patriots immediately hit the board jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first, courtesy of a Luke Martinez three-run homer.
Jesuit’s Michael Brothers then began the rally in the bottom of the frame with a single shot out of the park as well. The Blue Jays responded and took a 5-3 lead to end the inning. The contest was “ebbs and flows” of “chunk innings” and being responsive to the opponents, which is what impressed Patriots’ head coach, Jeff Curtis, the most.
“Our response was just over and over and over and over again. It was a relentless offensive effort from top to bottom”, says Curtis. “Hitting-wise, running the bases, no easy outs, we competed one through nine and we gave ourselves a chance.
” No. 3 John Curtis will take on the defending state champs, No. 2 Catholic B.
