Virginia Tech softball: Hokies blow out Syracuse on back-to-back days
Two more blowout wins for the Hokies.
The No. 13 Virginia Tech Hokies looked to finish the regular season strong this weekend, with a road trip to New York to face Syracuse. The Hokies got off to a great start on Friday, with an impressive 12-1 win over the Orange.
Much like we’ve seen all season, Virginia Tech jumped on its opponent early, as Nora Abromavage and Michelle Chatfield drove in runs to take a 2-0 lead. That would prove to be all the Hokies needed, as Bree Carrico and Avery Layton allowed only three hits in one run in five innings of action. The offense wasn’t done, though.
In the second inning, Jordan Lynch blasted her 16th home run of the season to extend VT’s lead to 5-0. The Hokies kept scoring, as Addison Foster delivered a two-run double in the top of the third to make it 7-0. After Syracuse scored its only run in the bottom of the third, Rachel Castine responded with another three-run home run and it was now 10-1.
Chatfield delivered a two-run single in the top of the fifth. It was yet another run-rule victory for Tech, its 17th of the season. On Saturday, Virginia Tech did it again, beating the Orange 13-2 for its 18th run-rule win.
