Mike DeFabo provided an update on the Pittsburgh Steelers' delayed signing of Darnell Savage Jr.

Darnell Savage Jr. reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers in March. Almost two months later, a contract has yet to be signed, however, leaving some to wonder what exactly happened between the two sides.

But NFL insider Mike DeFabo has now provided a positive update on the delayed signing. According to DeFabo, a "medical issue" delayed the Steelers ' acquisition of Savage, but a deal is expected to be signed once it's taken care of. โ€œSavage, my understanding is that they came to an agreement," DeFabo said via SNR Drive.

"They basically realized they were looking for a depth safety. He kind of fit the price point and the experience level they were looking for. There was some type of a medical issue that then delayed it.

But it did not wipe the deal out. Basically, the Steelers were like, 'Okay, once this is not a problem anymore, then theyโ€™re planning to sign it. โ€™โ€ DeFabo also added that this was before the Steelers drafted Oklahoma safety Robert Spears-Jennings in the seventh round of the 2026 NFL Draft, potentially complicating the original intentions to sign Savage.
