Insider provides positive update on Steelers' Darnell Savage situation
Mike DeFabo provided an update on the Pittsburgh Steelers' delayed signing of Darnell Savage Jr.
Darnell Savage Jr. reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers in March. Almost two months later, a contract has yet to be signed, however, leaving some to wonder what exactly happened between the two sides.
But NFL insider Mike DeFabo has now provided a positive update on the delayed signing. According to DeFabo, a "medical issue" delayed the Steelers ' acquisition of Savage, but a deal is expected to be signed once it's taken care of. โSavage, my understanding is that they came to an agreement," DeFabo said via SNR Drive.
"They basically realized they were looking for a depth safety. He kind of fit the price point and the experience level they were looking for. There was some type of a medical issue that then delayed it.
But it did not wipe the deal out. Basically, the Steelers were like, 'Okay, once this is not a problem anymore, then theyโre planning to sign it. โโ DeFabo also added that this was before the Steelers drafted Oklahoma safety Robert Spears-Jennings in the seventh round of the 2026 NFL Draft, potentially complicating the original intentions to sign Savage.
