Why was The Puma scratched from the 2026 Kentucky Derby?
A prominent horse didn't make the final cut for the 2026 Kentucky Derby.
The racing horse The Puma, who may or may not be partly owned by Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift , won't compete at Churchill Downs on Saturday for the 2026 Kentucky Derby. The horse was scratched ahead of the annual Run for the Roses. Why is that?
Well, officials shared that The Puma wouldn't race because of a swollen leg caused by a skin infection. That means only 19 horses will race during Saturday's Kentucky Derby. We hope The Puma gets healthy soon, but this is a bummer for folks who wanted to see the horse who Kelce and Swift may or may not own a stake in contend in the 2026 Kentucky Derby.
