The New England Patriots will have a new quarterback to deal with within the division this year, and he just embarrassed himself at the Miami Marlins' last game.

The Marlins had new Miami Dolphins quarterback Malik Willis throw out the first pitch on Friday, and he delivered one of the worst attempts fans have probably ever seen. Malik Willis' first pitch was just a bit high 😬 pic. twitter.

com/nAQgI1yfdy — MLB (@MLB) May 2, 2026 Willis was not even close to home plate. It's not uncommon to see first-pitch throwers skip the ball in or throw an eephus pitch to the plate. However, Willis was high and away from the catcher and ended up hitting the backstop.

Most celebrities get a pass on bad first pitch attempts, but Willis is a quarterback and quite literally gets paid to throw a ball. Throwing a football and throwing a baseball are not the same, and for players with no baseball background, it's not easy. Willis is not the only quarterback to struggle on a first pitch attempt, but he set himself up to get trolled if he airmails a pass this season.

The clip of his first pitch will likely come back to bite him on social media during the season at some point. Willis did comment on an Instagram post of his first pitch, noting that he slipped. Lucky for the Dolphins, they did not pay him north of $60 million to throw a baseball.
