Former NHLer Tony Twist exposes Gary Bettman's true colors. National Hockey League commissioner Gary Bettman has been a polarizing figure throughout his tenure as the head honcho of the NHL, with some praising Bettman for how much he has grown the sport during his tenure while others have a less favorable view of the commissioner. On a recent podcast former NHL player Tony Twist revealed a never before heard behind the scenes story involving Gary Bettman, one that may very well have exposed Bettman's true colors.
Several years ago Twist was working as an on-air talent with ESPN when he tried to have a little fun with Bettman during an interview. Twist would poke fun at Bettman's height which Bettman seemed to enjoy quite a bit, making for a funny and enjoyable on-air segment between the two men. "He's really not this tall he's standing on a stool," joked Twist who had asked Bettman to stand on a milk crate before the interview.
While we had witnessed the segment before, what we didn't know was that Twist had actually been fired for his stunt with Bettman. "I get to the trailer and they go 'You've been fired,'" revealed Twist on the Nashcast with former NHLer Tyson Nash. What was a horrible situation for Twist however was quickly remedied with Twist seeking out Bettman after he had received the bad news.
According to Twist, Bettman immediately picked up the phone and addressed the issue. "Hold on," said Bettman picking up the phone. According to Twist, Bettman quickly returned with some good news.
