While new horses race each year at Churchill Downs, some of the sport’s best trainers are behind the scenes and have repeated wins. One of the current trainers, Bob Baffert has emerged as one of the sport’s most successful figures at the Kentucky Derby. Baffert is tied for the most wins by a trainer at Churchill Downs, and he stands one elusive victory away from breaking the all-time record.
In 2015, Baffert became the first trainer to win four Kentucky Derbies since D. Wayne Lukas in 1999. His 2020 win with Justify matched him with horse racing icon Ben Jones as the only trainers with six victories in “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports.
