Bob Baffert was suspended from horse racing after 2021 Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit, a horse that he trained, failed a drug test. He was initially given a two-year suspension, but had another year tacked on for continuing to " peddle a false narrative " by claiming that he had done nothing wrong. The horse died seven months after its win and was stripped of its title two months after its death.
Baffert is tied with Ben Jones for the most Kentucky Derby wins all-time with six. Baffert had a less than stellar performance in 2025, with his one horse, Citizen Bull, finishing 15/19. This year, there's two new Baffert-trained horses in the race.
