LOCAL ROUNDUP: Southwest baseball, softball win Metro tourney titles

JAMESTOWN – Third-seeded Southwest Guilford won 2-1 over top-seeded Grimsley on Thursday at Ragsdale in the Metro 6A/7A Conference baseball tournament championship. Brendan Snider, Connor Kennedy and Camden Welch each had a hit for the Cowboys (17-9), who scored single runs in the first and third to lead 2-0. Andrew Barefoot drove in a run.

Kaden Morgan earned the complete-game pitching win, striking out seven while scattering four hits and two walks. OAK GROVE, NORTH DAVIDSON KERNERSVILLE – Top-seeded Oak Grove edged second-seeded North Davidson 4-3 in the Piedmont Triad 5A/6A Conference baseball championship Thursday at Glenn. Addison Terry, who doubled, and Cam Sharpe each had a hit and two RBIs for the Grizzlies (17-7), while Carson Everhart had two hits.

Cooper Hunt, who pitched four innings, and Carson Everhart, who pitched three innings, each struck out four on the mound. WESTCHESTER COUNTRY DAY, CALDWELL GREENSBORO – Westchester Country Day beat rival Caldwell 10-3 in PTAC baseball Thursday at Caldwell. Ashton Pittman had three hits, including a triple, and an RBI for the Wildcats (16-6 overall, 6-3 conference).

Crawford Elrod homered and drove in three while Tyler Mangus had a hit and two RBIs. Kaline Burr-Ellis, Cameron Daniel and Ricky Velez each had a hit and an RBI, and Sawyer Pugh had two hits. Elrod got the pitching win, striking out eight in six innings.

TW ANDREWS, MONTGOMERY CENTRAL TROY – TW Andrews lost 15-0 against Montgomery Central in PAC Seven 4A/5A baseball Thursday at Montgomery Central. The Red Raiders ended the regular season 1-18 overall and 1-11 in the conference. HIGH POINT CENTRAL, LEXINGTON HIGH POINT – High Point Central won 15-2 against Lexington in PAC Seven 4A/5A baseball Thursday at Central.
