Chiefs sign former Colorado football DT Amari McNeill to UDFA contract

•Yahoo Sports

Former Colorado DT Amari McNeill impressed at rookie minicamp and earned a UDFA deal with the Chiefs.

The Kansas City Chiefs ' rookie minicamp only began a few days ago, but the Chiefs brass already liked what they have seen from former Colorado defensive tackle Amari McNeill. So much so that the team signed McNeill to a full, undrafted free-agent contract after originally bringing him in just as a rookie minicamp invite, with the upgraded contract status, McNeill seems like a good bet to make it through training camp on the roster. McNeill played three seasons with the Colorado Buffaloes , appearing in 32 games and starting 12.

He recorded 77 total tackles, 15 tackles for loss, seven sacks, six quarterback hurries, three forced fumbles, one pass breakup and a blocked kick. He was a consistent presence along the CU defensive line, wreaking havoc on opponents' rushing attacks. As a team, Colorado did not have any players selected in the seven-round NFL draft, but the program's success with undrafted free agents should be noted. In the last 11 seasons, CU has had at least one undrafted free agent make a final 53-man roster. Follow Charlie Strella on X , Threads , and Instagram .
