Russell Wilson considering surprising career decision

Yahoo Sports

Four months after he said he would play in the 2026 NFL season, Russell Wilson is now considering taking a TV job.

Russell Wilson might be changing course. After the 2025 NFL season wrapped up, Wilson said he planned to play again in 2026 . "I’m not blinking," Wilson told ESPN in January.

"I know what I’m capable of. " Four months later, somewhat surprisingly, Wilson seems to have had a change of heart. The 37-year-old quarterback is now "in deep discussions to go into television," which would likely end his NFL career, according to a report from The Athletic 's Andrew Marchand .

CBS is the current favorite to land Wilson for its Sunday pregame show, "The NFL Today," according to Marchand. If he accepts the role, Wilson would be replacing Matt Ryan, who now works for the Atlanta Falcons . Wilson recently had a free agent visit with the New York Jets , so the option of playing is seemingly still on the table.

Wilson, a 10-time Pro Bowler and one-time Super Bowl champion, spent the majority of his career with the Seattle Seahawks , where he went 104-53-1 as a starter before being traded to the Denver Broncos . Denver went 11-19 with Wilson under center before cutting him in 2024 and drafting Bo Nix. Since then, Wilson has spent time with the Pittsburgh Steelers (6-5) and New York Giants (0-3).
