Sturgis-area softball teams register sweeps on the diamond

Softball roundup: Bronson, Centreville, White Pigeon and Mendon all pick up victories

BRONSON — The Bronson softball team had energy and excitement on the field Thursday evening. It helped the Vikings overcome a slim early deficit in the opening game and led them to a sweep of visiting Hanover-Horton. Bronson won the first contest 6-2 and the second 19-7.

"I was very pleased with the energy and joy we brought to the game tonight," head coach Becky Gray said. "We play so much better when we play with energy. We are still working on some things defensively, but I thought we hit the ball well tonight.

At the plate, Delanee Carpenter drove in four runs with a single and a double, Hermosa Gonzalez connected for two singles. Roni Bir had two base hits as well, driving in one.

Lydia Wells and Braelynn Gimenez each connected for a hit in the game. Ashlynn Harris pitched Bronson to a win in the second game. She struck out seven over five innings of work.
