Cricket Canada has ushered in a new era, appointing Monty Desai as the head coach of the men’s national team, with the board calling it a “pivotal moment” for the country’s cricketing future. Desai, a seasoned coach with over two decades of international experience, brings with him a proven track record in Associate cricket. One of his most notable achievements came with Nepal, where he played a key role in helping the side regain ODI status and qualify for multiple ICC global events.

“Our foremost priority is to restore Cricket Canada’s prominence through performance, professionalism, and a renewed and vitalized sense of purpose,” Khosa said. “Appointing Monty Desai reflects this vision. His experience with Associate nations, most notably Nepal and Afghanistan, demonstrates his ability to transform teams through effective leadership, discipline, and a clear long term plan,” he added.
Khosa also highlighted the timing of the move, especially after Canada’s recent appearance at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. "Honoured to take on this responsibility" Desai, who has previously worked with the Afghanistan national cricket team and across India’s domestic and franchise circuits, expressed gratitude and optimism upon taking charge. “I am honoured to take on this responsibility and thank Cricket Canada for their trust,” Desai said.
